Mrs. Dinah Wright is the club advisor for the Academic Competition Club at Memorial Middle School. Mrs. Wright and her Academic Competition Club arranged to conduct a Spelling Bee in each homeroom on January 19th, which followed the National Scripps Spelling Bee rules. Over 600 students from 32 homerooms participated. The 1st round resulted in 32 winners. The 2nd round took place on February 9th after school, where 14 contestants moved to the 3rd round. Marcus Thomas was crowned the winner on February 23rd as the Memorial Middle School Spelling Bee Champion. Marcus will now move to the county level. The nine finalists included:
