COLLEGE PLANNING
Directions to Apply for College on Naviance
Carefully read all the following instructions:
Students must record all college applications in Naviance Family Connection.
You can access Naviance Family Connection at https://student.naviance.com/willingborohigh and can now log in with Clever!
Complete a Record Release Form and return it to your counselor. These forms were provided in the senior packet and are available in guidance.
Visit each prospective college’s website to determine if they use the Common Application or their own institutional application. Make a list of application requirements and deadlines for each program to remain organized.
If necessary, create an account on the Common App. website http://www.commonapp.org/
Complete the Education section completely (use the “School Look Up” option to find Willingboro High School – CEEB Code 311623)
Add college to “My Colleges List”
Sign the FERPA Release Authorization in the “Assign Recommender” section of the “My Colleges” tab. This allows educational records to be sent on your behalf.
All requests for letters of recommendation from WHS school personnel should be completed in Naviance Family Connection (if you have completed a Common App. please tell the recommender because there is an additional report they must complete). Any recommendations from people outside of WHS can be entered in the “Assign Recommender” section of the Common App.
It is the responsibility of the student to ask staff members for a letter of recommendation and notify them once the request has been sent.
Now you need to match your Common App. and Naviance accounts. There is a video with instructions posted on the homepage of Naviance Family Connection.
Go to the “Colleges” tab. Select “Colleges I’m Applying To”. Enter the email address that you used on your Common Application, verify your date of birth and select “Match”.
Once your accounts are matched successfully, review your “Colleges I’m Applying To” list. Click on each college’s name and answer the question “How are you applying?”. If you have applied, it cannot say “I’m not sure yet” (transcripts can’t be sent until you select Common App. or Directly to Institution).
To list colleges that you are applying to that do not require the Common App.
Go to the “Colleges” tab and “Colleges I’m Applying To” list in Naviance Family Connection.
Select “+ Add to This List”.
Select Decision Type (using the drop-down menu) and College (using the lookup tool) for each school you are applying to.
If the colleges/universities you are applying to require letters of recommendation you must request them via Naviance Family Connection.
Go to the “Colleges” tab and under “Teacher Recommendations” select “Add/Cancel Requests”.
It is the responsibility of the student to ask staff members for a letter of recommendation, to notify them once the request has been sent and to see if the letters have been submitted.
Once you have applied to a college/university:
Go to the “Colleges” tab and “Colleges I’m Applying To” list in Naviance Family Connection.
Select “Have You Applied” in the row of the college to which you have applied.
Scroll down through the college list and check the box “I have submitted My Application” for the schools you have applied to. Next, answer the question “How are you applying?”. If you have applied, it cannot say “I’m not sure yet” (transcripts can’t be sent until you select Common App. or Directly to Institution).
If the schools you have applied to require transcripts:
Go to “Colleges” tab and “Colleges I’m Applying To” and a list of your current applications will appear. Select the schools requiring transcripts and click “Request Transcripts” at the bottom of the screen. NOTE: Pay attention to deadlines and be sure to request all transcripts at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline.
Record the admission decision in Naviance Family Connection by
Going to the “Colleges I’m Applying to” page.
Click the pencil in the “Edit” column of the college.
Next to “Result”, indicate the admission decision using the drop-down menu.
Let your counselor know when you have been accepted and if you have been awarded any scholarship/grant money from the college/university.
*Please Note:
Students are responsible for submitting all test scores (via CollegeBoard or ACT webpages). If you used a fee waiver for the SAT you are entitled to 4 application fee waivers (allowing you to apply to 4 participating Colleges/Universities for free).
